NIGHT by Elie Wiesel: "Man asks and God..." Is this a paradox?

I. Early in the narrative, Moishe tells Eliezer, “Man asks and G-d replies. But we don’t understand His replies. We cannot understand them” ( 5). Is this a paradox?
